100 Pushups

Filed under: Personal — egoncasteel @ 12:00 am

I decided that after almost 5 years behind a desk I should really start getting some exercise again. Of course like most people I don’t like exercise, and after the a foreĀ  mentioned 5 years behind a desk I didn’t think I was ready to startĀ  big with some thing like PX90. So after after looking around I decided to go with the 100 pushup program. Its simple, doesn’t require equipment, and it doesn’t take a lot of time.

I just finished my 3rd week of the program which puts me half way through. I wont lie. I am sore a lot of days but I feel pretty good. I haven’t been able to do push ups like this since playing sports back in high school, and I am starting to look a little leaner and buffer in the the chest and arms.

I don’t know if I will make it to the 100, but the program hasn’t killed me yet. I will proudly post the ” I did the 100 badge” here if I make it. In the mean time I recommend the program to any one that wants to start small to get in shape.

Some Good Some Bad

Filed under: Personal — egoncasteel @ 1:07 pm

Well it has been an eventful weekend. Saturday I bought a new car. Its a 1996 Lexus ES300. No I wasn’t intending on buying a Lexus it just turned out that way. I was looking at older used cars and the sales person told me he would drop the price of the Lexus to match the old Toyotas I was looking at. So I got a Lexus.

It’s the first car have ever had with air conditioning.

The bad is what happen to Shannon the night of the same day. She had her car window smashed and her purse taken from under the passenger set.(they cant take their purses in to the restaurant). She was shaken up pretty good, but she seems ok now. I gave her my old car to use for a while.

Just a very eventful weekend. Some good, some bad.

A while ago I went back to UW Platteville for the first time in 8 years to attend the 20th anniversary of Plattecon.

Plattecon the gaming convention put on by the PGA (the gaming club for UW-P). I saw a lot of people I hadn’t seen in a long time. I looked around the new student center they had built on campus. And, of course played in a few games.

It occurs to me that the PGA is still running the convention more or less the same way we did 10 or 12 years ago. Pretty low tech. Printed con booklet, Paper forms, not much of any web presents at all. I have been looking for a good project to learn Django on. A con web site/con management site may be a good choice.

3 Weeks of not doing my job

Filed under: Personal — egoncasteel @ 3:39 am

Well I am almost done not doing my job. It is not that I haven’t been working. Its just that I haven’t been doing “my job”. I have been working 3rd shift and having odd days off here and there. Next week I will be back at my old job and should have some up dates about a new backup tape tracking application and CAWeb.

Merry X-Mass to Me

Filed under: Personal — egoncasteel @ 12:10 am

Well thanks to very kind parents I am the owner of a new EeePC. I must say I am impressed with the little thing. For the most part it just works. Once I opened up the advance KDE desktop (nothing more then an apt-get command) it has been really impressive. If you want a light easy to carry laptop, that cant play WoW, you cant beat this one for the price. I hope that an extended battery will be available soon. 3 hours is ok, but 6 would be outstanding.

On a side note this is a new web comic I found that is very well written and drawn. Take a look.

Me and Shannon went down to DeKalb IL this week end to see my sister, Laura, receive her nursing pin form NIU. It was nice to see my parents and sister. It was also Shannon’s first time meeting them.
